I came across an amazing Flash-based website that pays tribute to the quest for the ultimate cheese burger. Cheese & Burger is a website that does nothing but dish up 30, yes THIRTY, different recipes for cheese burgers. We are talking using a variety of beef, a tons of different types of cheeses, different types of buns, and condiments to boot. This site has some great and quirky voice-overs, a terrific interactive flip-type booklet format and is just plan fun to engage with.

The most interesting part about this whole, very inspiring, and delicious-looking website? It is a campaign by the Wisconsin Cheese Advisory Board. Talk about a great way to sell cheese! Now I have to run and fire up my grill and wipe the drool from my mouth.

Yum!

Design 7 Studio just put the finishing touches on a project that was in the works over the holiday.

The Cambria Historical Society, led by client Susan McDonald, approached Design 7 Studio to take on the task of redesigning the organizations website back in the Fall of 2009. The project launched and went live on the servers on January 28, 2010.

It was decided in the beginning that the website needed an antique, vintage look to help promote the Society’s purpose of presenting the rich, local history of the quaint coastal town of Cambria, California. The site need to breath antiquity. From the color palette used, to the wealth of old photographs available, the website really helps visitors take a trip down memory lane into Cambria’s past.

But the site doesn’t use antiquated means. A Flash-driven photo gallery, jQuery-enhanced forms, and a custom Google Map that provided a virtual walking tour help round-out the visitor’s overall experience.

View the site

There is a now common web-term referred to the “page fold”.

This is the line on a web-page where the typical browser window cuts off the content at the bottom. When designing elements or content that you want to be prominent to the viewer, it is referred to as desiring it to be “above the page fold”.

What is funny is that we are a people that have come to ignore the page fold. We are so used to scrolling that it has become second nature. We scroll through lengthy emails when a friend or family-member has forwarded a forwarded email that was forwarded by 100 other people just so we can get to the content that was forwarded. We scroll our handhelds, our iPods, our iPhones, and our trackpads.

So what’s the big deal anyway? The fact that people are so concerned with the “page-fold” of a website is ridiculous if you ask me. It is a WEB-PAGE. It’s okay if it is a quarter-mile long. That is what gives it certain benefits over the confines of paper.

So what a joy it was to come across There Is No Page-Fold. A website that simply exists to poke fun of people’s aversion to having to scroll and those that preach the page-fold.

Jennie Sturgeon over at Trumpet Vine contacted Design 7 Studio after being referred by the good folks at Zenaida Cellars (a client) back in the early Fall, desiring a major upgrade in the look of her (then) current website.

Tailoring her catering business to high-end events and weddings, her new site needed a fresh, ornate, and prestine look to it. While still desiring a main color palette of green and orange to stick to her existing brand-colors, the end result was met with great reviews and applause. The blog portion of the site was built using WordPress so that Jennie could update that portion of her site herself.

It has been a long time since a movement, an collaborative effort, or “packaged” pitch has not only caught my attention, but made me really take notice and so passionately want to spread the word about.

I am referring to a rather new Web site that has been launched called I Am Second. The purpose of the Web site and group behind it is to solely proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, but utilizing the video testimonies from a wide range of celebrities, all who have different stories to share about how they came to discover the truth of Jesus and accept Him as their savior. There is a few hours worth of material to watch if you so desire, all through 3 -5 minute snippets for which for each person you could watch further videos, read more about their testimonies, etc.

The video is of extremely high-quality both in cinemetography and editing. The Web site has a slick interface, loads fast, and is engaging and makes you want to prolong your visit.

But the best part is that it truly pitches the truths of the the Bible and a relationship with Jesus, but through a collection of life-stories, of various industries, of various races, of various backgrounds.

Whether you are a believer or not, a skeptic or a seeker, agnostic or atheist – this site is worth visiting. What do you have to lose?… but then again, that is the whole point.

Leave it to our 44th president, Barrack Obama to appeal even further with the nation and in particular, the Milennial generation. For as soon as he was sworn into office, the White House not only switched the name plaque on the Oval Office, but switched on its all new, redesigned Web site for the White House.

This website rocks! Not only does it flex a clean look, but it has a really nice, well-organized structure to it. On it for just a moment and I got sucked into reading about the history of the White House, John Adams, and other particulars about government that I normally would have passed over.

This really helps further communicate why President Obama has the country really relating to him and he to them. He gets this generation and used new media and a online presence that today’s generation can relate to and want to follow.

I am not sure who was responsible for designing the site, but they did a great job. And the server is fast. If you have ever been to a city’s official website, you will encounter a slow, mediocre speed Web site. I guess it pays to have the CIA’s servers to back your site up, huh?
