Pin Wheel Illusion: The Same Color

June 27th, 2009

Time for a little lesson in color theory. The image below appears to have spirals of green, blue, and pink/magenta – but what appears to be blue and what appears to be green are actually identical colors. Don’t believe me? The squares below that image are taken from sample pixels. What’s the reason for this trippy effect and why you were so certain that you were looking at stripes of green and stripes of blue? They look like different colors because our brain.. || Continue Reading →

Aerial Alphabet

June 19th, 2009

Some people will go to great lengths to pursue the art of typography and see the alphabet in the world around them. Rhett Dashwood is one of those individuals. Rhett recently went to great lengths, to the tune of MONTHS, searching mile by mile on Google Maps throughout Victoria, Australia in search of unique letter forms that would comprise his aerial alphabet. While you may question the extremity of his determination (and that he may have TOO much time on his hand), you have.. || Continue Reading →

Letters Looking Up

I came across this image on Neatorama the other day that I had to share. Though the photographer/artist is not could not be found, I wanted to post it anyways. This alphabet is comprised of photos taken in urban areas that have tall buildings. All shots are from the vantage point of looking up. The reason I chose to share this is it confirms that designers, photographers, artists, and other creatives just plain look at the world around them through a different set of eyes.

Okay, I need to get something off of my chest.  Here goes: I don’t get Twitter. I don’t get tweeting and I certainly don’t understand people that do twitter. But even in the.. || Continue Reading →

A parody video from a clip from “A Few Good Men” that focus’s on the creative industry, advertising, and the internal struggles between copy writer, client, graphic designer, and the Great Creative Process. The voice-over impersonation of Jack Nicholson is fantastic. Enjoy!

I wanted to post a “shout out” of praise to Cody Haltom and the design firm The Butler Bros. for this typographical tribute in the form of furniture.  This custom photographic alphabet was created for their client, High Fashion Home – a Houston based home furnishings store, using pieces of furniture that they actually sell. Below is the alphabet displayed, along with samples of print advertising that went with the campaign.

Parody: The Astounding World of the Future

Never has the year 2000 looked so futuristic. A funny mid-20th century newsreel featuring amazingly accurate predictions of the year 2000. This video won BEST SHORT FILM – New York Comedy Film Festival and will give you a good chuckle or two. I love the narration and choice of backtrack music. Definitely a throw back to films of the 50’s and 60′… Enjoy!
